Hi. I am currently 33 wks pregnant with my 3rd child

Q. Hi. I am currently 33 wks pregnant with my 3rd child. I have noticed for the past 4 wks or so a difference in my vaginal area. It is very difficult these days to look, so I am even more confused.

When I go to the restroom whether it be to urinate or defecate, I notice that I feel heavy in the area between the vagina and the anus. When I touch that area I feel like it is bulging, it just feels like it droops out….not sure that makes sense. I had a 3rd degree tear with my last birth and I have felt ‘different’ ever since. On occasion intercourse which includes penetration from my spouse can be a bit painful, almost like I have to physically use my hands to open that area for him. Do these things sound normal and if not, who would I discuss these issues with (what type of doctor)? I look forward to hearing your response and I appreciate the time you are taking to help. Thanks in advance!

A. Thanks. I think it is best to await the birth of your baby and see your GP at the end of 6 weeks, however nothing stops you from discussing this with your midwife and or your Obstetrician in the natenatal clinic, who may chose to have a look and discuss findings with you. This is however likely to be more meaning after childbirth, and perhaps after you have resumed sexual intercourse. There is a likelihood that you have vaginal prolapse.

Q. I have had a vaginal prolapse which has been repaired on the national health, I am still bleeding as the mesh they used keeps coming through my vagina I have no sex life can this procedure help,

A. No. You need to see your specialist to sort out the mesh erosion problem, after then, if you have difficulty with sex, that can be addressed by vaginal tightening, then we can see you for an initial consultation.
