Q. My coil (copper IUD) is stuck the strings are not there and my GP has tried twice to get it out after a scan confirmed it is still there, she thinks it is embedded in my cervix! She has refered me to hospital for a procedure that begins with a ‘C’ please could you tell me what is going to be done to me to get it out?! Also roughly how long am I going to wait on the NHS andcan I have it done privately and if so how much would it cost? Thanks,
A. Thanks. You will be having a retrieval of IUCD coil. To come out, you may also need hysteroscopy, but it is not usually necessary. The cost depends on how it is taken out. you may need to go under a short general anaesthesia, if it is painful to retrieve it.

Q. during intercourse my cervix really hurts, what can i do to stop this?,
A. Thanks. Positionin is the best intervention, so that it is less frequent for your partner to reach the cervix. There may be some other reasons such as infection or scarring (adhesions) or even endometriosis.

A. Thanks. You should check with your GP that there is no infection and that it is not mid-cycle spotting. Otherwise it should settle.

Q. hi, i am on the progesterone only mini pill but im planning on starting a family next year. i can not take any pills that contain eostrogen as they have adverse effects. i have been told the pill will take a year to work out of my system and mycycle become normal. Should i change my contraceptive to increase my chances of starting a family next year?
thanks,
A. Thanks. It is diffuclt for me to give direct advice like this on a blog. But it is the implant or injectable type of progestogen contraceptive that are reowned for delayed return of fertility. Do check the exact type that you have with your GP, or let us know and we will be able to tell you.

Q. I had the Implanon implant fitted 5 months ago. Over the last 8 weeks I have had a period every 2 weeks (4 in total). These are really heavy and last a week. Since 2006 to just prior to having it fitted I changed from a 27 day cycle to every 14 days and was exhausted by this crazy cycle. I’ve had numerous scans which have not given any abnormal results apart from a tiny fibroid at the top of my uterus. I feel like my hormones are ruling my life, I spend a week being bloated and emotional with PMS and then another week menstruating. Initially the GP advised me that the implant would regulate my cycle but this has not been the case. Is this type of thing normal or to be expected, I am 39 years old and otherwise in good health.,
A. Thanks. Do see your GP on when the Implanon is due to be taken out and/or changed, and other concerns can be addressed.
