Q. my grand daughter of 20 years old has been told she has clunps of polycystic ovaries and is in a lot of pain but has only had one scan – she is overweight partly due to haveng asthma as a young child and put on steriods – she has acne and hairy do you think she needs another scan we have been up and down to the doctors, she works nights as a health care assistant and recently has passed out several times at work.,
A. Thanks. It may help to do a confirmatory scan, but a blood tests will also help. She however seem to have the physical signs of PCOS, despite what you say about the steroid use for asthma

Q. Hi. I had treatment for abnormal cells on my cervix in may under general anaesthetic all went fine the doctor said i had no bleeding or anything after. and i am waiting for my follow up smear in nov.. However I am wanting to go back on the pill Yasmin as I am in a stable relationship with my boyfriend. I would like some advice as to whether this is advisable or is exposure to the protein in sperm something that can damage my cervix further? I have just read various things about this and would like some clarification as obviously dont want to put myself at risk of abnormal cells coming back or the situation worsening. is it the HPV vius that causes the abnormalities, will I still have this or might this only be an issue if my boyfriend was carrying it and passed it onto me? Any advice you have is greatly appreciated. many thanks.,
A. Thanks. These are sensitive questions you have asked. It will be irresponsible fo me to give direct blanket answer, so I suggest you see your GP to discuss further and if necessary refer you back to the colposcopy clinic, for counselling on the various questions.

Q. I am a virgin. 19 years old. Started using tampons just recently. Found feces on my tampon several times, quite huge amount. I really panicked. I started reading about that on the internet and found out that I might have a rectovaginal fistula. But it doesn’t make any sense because it’s written that it usually could happen after childbirth or as a result of some kind of surgery. But I had neither. How is that possible? Since I am not having sexual life and never used tampons before, I couldn’t notice that earlier. What if I am having this fistula for a really long time? Read freaking stories about infections and it is not surprising considering that there are feces inside the vagina. But I actually never felt any discomfort or irritation. If not a tampon I would never notice. But now it really scares me as it is absolutely abnormal. What should I do next? Please help. Who do I have to visit – gynecologist or proctologist or maybe see a GP first? And how much the observations will cost?,
A. Thanks. Do visit your GP. My feeling is that this is not a fistula, if you only noticed because you used the tampon.

Q. After 20yrs of being on premarin 0.625 i stopped last year. I now have acute atrophic vaginitis, and tried vagifem and ovestin, both make me nauseas. Not sexually active for 15yrs. age 58 help what can i try next,
A. Thanks. I think because you have given me a diagnosis, it is difficult to know how to help because I do not know the set of symptoms you in particularly have – for example some atrophic vaginitis present with some bleeding or spotting. Do try any soothing cream in the meantime or let me know your symptom profile.
