Q. Scan shows I have a fibroid sized 6cm x 4cm . I have pelvic cramps /pain. Should I have it removed or are there other options for me ,
A. Thanks – options to remove fibroid has to be the last one. This size of fibroid, if solitary is common, and may or may not explain your pelvic cramps – most simple fibroids do not cause pain.. There are other options – leave alone, specific medications to treat symptoms, injection to shrink it , depending on your age, fertility, etc, there is also embolisation and mor erecently some magnetic resonance / ultrasound techniques, which are under currently being investigated. Removal should be of the last options unless it is for fertility and advised by a fertility expert looking after you.

Q. Hello. I havent had a period for 6 months and am not pregnant. Ive been tested for thyroid, prolactin, lsh, Th, hormones and everything normal. I am having another blood test to look at my folic acid and ferratin levels as red blood cells came back slightly large however the doctor did not seem to think this would be the reaason for absent periods. I exercise 6 times a week and had lost some weight however my bmi is now back upto 19. I also am experiancing quite a lot of hair fall which i have never noticed before. could there be something seriously wrong with me? I am starting to get a bit worried.
,
A. Thanks. Your missed period may be related to your vigourous exercise regime. There may be other reasons, and more likely may be multifactorial – age, diet, exercise. stress, lifestyle, etc. A trial of hormonal challenge will clarify a few things – do discuss this with your doctor.

Q. I am constantly having thrush.I have treated with medicine from the doctors and nothing has cleared it up.I believe in alternative medicine and would like to take medicine to get rid of the thrush.
I reckon the condition was brought on from taking antibiotics for three years for treatment of acne.I have had the condition for over sixteen years. So fed up.,
A. Thanks. I cannnot advocate or criticise alternative medicines, but do discuss this with your GP for guidance. There are many in the market, some are Ok, some are not. And it is difficult to regulate which..

Q. Hi….my last period date was 26-June-2010.As per the date i am 8 weeks 4 days pregnant now..today we have taken ultrasound scan and they said my fetus is 11mm and i am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant…they have seen the heart beat……they said this everything fine…is this normal??but i am bit worried…becoz i found in the pregnancy guide that for 8 weeks the fetus shud be 20mm….please clarify my doubt and help me….,
A. If a heartbeat was found at the last scan, then we normally consider scan dating to be more accurate, as it is difficult to determine precisely when conception / fertilisation occurs, even in intances where only one sexual intercourse has taken place. Another scan in two weeks will help that if you or GP feel this is necessary.

Q. Hello Mr Daniels
I had a SIS Oct 2009 and this showed 3 polyphs but endometrium was normal.
Had aspontaneous miscarriage 30 December 2009. Heavy bleeding with lots of clots and bleed for about 14 days. Next period occurred about 4-6 weeks later, was very heavy with clots and lasted again about 14 days. In April period pattern returned to that prior to miscarriage. In May had a few days of spotting and then period occured as expected and lasted 7 days; normal. Period in June normal. July had a few days light spotting and then light period occurred. In August period started 3 days late and had bright red blood. This period was light. Stopped 6/7 days later and then 2 days later it started again with bright red blood. Bleeding light. Was admitted for a hysteroscopy and polypectomy on 16 Aug 2010. The hysteroscopy showed what I got told was a fuzzy endometriun and that it didn’t resemble an endometrium of someone my age; I’m 46, so a D&C was performed an biopsy. I was told that it may be endometrial cancer or hyperplasia. As you can appreciate I have my fingers and toes crossed. As stated D&C on 16 Aug 2010 but I’m still bleeding, light but bright red. Minimal to no bleeding when lying down only when up; is this due to pooling in the uterus? Is having bright red blood normal? Why is it bright red? how long may bleeding last? Have some discomfort in lower pubic area? was prescribed antibiotics for UTI after proceedure. Would appreciate your experience. Thanking you in anticipation. Su,
A. Thanks. I think may of the questions here are very person specific and the best answer will come form your gynecologist who did the hysteroscopy. Ideally you should arrange to speak to them directly or through your GP asking them the questions. You certainly have had irregular bleeding, which is due to some identified reason, including polyps. Some irregualr bleeding may take a couple of week to subside after this type fo procedure and finding. You should at least see your GP to make sure there is no infection, an if there is , a swab and a different antibiotics can be given.

Q. What does the procedure cost and is it covered by Insurance,
A. Apologies. There is a break in the discussion. I respond to clients questions annonymously and I do not have their details or a trail of previous answers. Kindly email me via info@gynecosmetics.com and forward previous communications, if any, so I can follow, if I have answered any questions for you in the past. I am not sure of the procedure you are referring to and most cosmetics procedures are not covered by insurance. In some cases, a part of a proecure that is non-cosmetic may be. Thanks.

Q. Hello
I just wondered what would be the best course of action for me in terms of getting a smear test. I went to have one last year but the doctor was unable to perform it as she said I was too tight down there (I also found it quite painful).
Are there any clinics in London which specialise in situations like these?,
A. Thanks. You need a smaller speculum and soemone who does speculum examination frequently. If you rewuire help, do contact info@gynecosmetics.com and I will see you in one of my clinics.

A. Fentons procedure is to widen the vaginal introitus because of painful sex. it is an operation on the perineum, but techincally not what we call a perineoplasty.
